My personal cure for inconsistency

My key for making habits stick (perfect for busy students wanting to create)

Hey amorteurs (lovers of learning),

A new friend of mine on Twitter replied with something that captures the simplicity of my message.

It made me think about one powerful tool for rapid and focused progress: the sprint.

Kieran Drew in a recent-ish newsletter wrote about the power of the 90-day sprint. The idea is:

  • You go all in on a particular topic/skill/goal for 90-days

  • That's it.

It's that simple. The thing is, it's gonna be a little hard, but the rewards would be great.

My girlfriend and I decided to experiment with this.

She chose learning the piano. I chose budgeting (odd choices, I know).

And the results?

... They were actually really good.

But then I got bored and quit because it was too much effort.

I also craved balance.

So, I return to the habits method.

Yes, 90-day sprints are powerful. If you can do them, go for it.

But if you're like me, there's a path for the slow-poke snails.

And the cool things is: on this path, we compound for life.

Cheers,

John "1 every day" Canonizado.
