A Better Day is Waiting For You

Are you having busy days yet getting nothing done?

Hey amorteurs,

A late post tonight, but never miss twice.

This email is for all the creators who have trouble prioritizing and being effective.

Let's get started.

Another Busy Day, Nothing Done

Recently, I've been doing too much.

There I was, knocking out shortly after finishing another intensive day of school, gyming, social obligations, and passion streaks.

I felt almost burned out, but not quite (thanks to the 2-day rule).

Yet, despite all I was doing, there was something wrong.

And I knew why:

In Need of Priorities

Prioritization.

That's what I needed.

It's a constant theme running in my life. I'd get excited, and more importantly, stable with my habits, and I'm ready to take on the world.

I'll do anything and everything. Why? Because I can.

It makes me feel good.

But busyness was never the goal. I was chasing productivity when I knew, for the longest time, that I needed effectiveness. It was a quantity vs. quality matter.

And that's not all:

When Life Gets in the Way

It's easy to get busy.

Life gets in the way.

From an infinite number of goals to tackle, skills to learn, tasks to do, people to meet, and responsibilities to fulfill, it's inevitable that if we don't guard our lives, something was gonna take over.

And it does. Knowing where to start to sort things through seems unrealistic.

After all, the room is messy, the dishes left, the whole state of the economy on the brink of collapse...

I needed a simple solution to this complex problem.

And there is one.

The ONE Thing + Chasing Avoidance

Or two, to be exact.

The ONE Thing is a useful tool for prioritizing life most simply.

It comes from the book of the same name by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan.

Basically, it involves one simple question:

What's the One Thing I can do / such that by doing it / everything else will be easier or unnecessary?

Gary Keller & Jay Papasan

You could modify this question in infinite ways for any given situation.

The way I'm applying it is by asking myself: "What's the ONE Thing I can do in these next 90 days such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?"

Another useful question: What am I avoiding?

Often what's most important is that which we're constantly avoiding.

So, what's the deal with these 2 questions?

Reflection Reveals

Reflection can save you months or even years on time invested.

We often don't take the time to reflect on our progress.

We're either acting or we're planning.

But we're never reflecting.

This is a tragedy because feedback is our most important tool for improvement.

Often, a single question can change things.

And ask a good question, and you can change everything.

These 2 questions are quality reflections to dive into the unprocessed experience of life.

To extract the diamonds.

After asking myself these 2 questions, 2 things happened:

Increase Clarity and Take Control

Immediately, I felt a weight come off my shoulders.

No, I did not get an exorcism. No ghosts were looming over me.

I instead felt the spirit of clarity. No longer bogged down by an excess of responsibility, I was dialed in.

Regardless of whether my reflections brought the true priority is a non-issue.

Time and feedback will lead to greater iterations.

But being crystal clear about what to do next is liberating.

I'm liberated to take control of my schedule and therefore my life.

2 Simple Journal Prompts

In summary, reflect to get ahead and ask yourself these 2 questions to prioritize your life better:

  1. What's the ONE Thing I can do in these next 90 days such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?

  2. What am I avoiding?
